Since 1988 volunteers from all around San Antonio and Bexar County have gathered under the Houston Street Bridge each Sunday to serve a hot meal to those in need. The "Under the Bridge" project as it has come to be called was founded by Ellen Ott.
Ellen has a career as a surgical nurse but has devoted herself to the homeless and needy in her spare time. Many people appreciate the opportunity to serve those in need.
Currently 8 churches and many other organizations rotate the duties throughout the year. Each is responsible for soliciting donations of food, enlisting volunteers to cook and serve.
